The American Legion Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) program is stepping up to provide expedited assistance for minor children of United States Coast Guard (USCG) active duty service members during the current government shutdown.



Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA) is working in conjunction with American Legion National Headquarters to allow CGMA and USCG commands to investigate and send TFA applications directly to National Headquarters in order to expedite assistance to those minor children of USCG members in critical need. National Headquarters will overnight approved TFA checks directly to those service members instead of mailing them to department adjutants for delivery as would normally be done. Departments will, however, still receive credit for any TFA grants issued for children of USCG members that are received and processed at National Headquarters during the current shutdown.
