Columbia Fisher House Donation
Mar 24, 2018
Dear South Carolina American Legion Family Members:
When National Commander Denise Rohan was in South Carolina earlier this month, The American Legion family of South Carolina made two generous donations to the Columbia and Charleston Fisher Houses. The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary donation to the Charleston Fisher House was $5010.00. The Charleston Fisher House is complete but still needed additonal funds to renovate the Carriage House to keep it up to code for the Charleston Historic District.
South Carolina American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion Squadron and Detachment donations to the Columbia Fisher House was an astounding total of $11,910.00! Donations came from all over, Hilton Head Post 185, James Island Post 147, Cayce Post 130 and the 40 & 8, Columbia Post 182, Columbia Post 215, Lexington Post 217, Chesnee Post 48, Westminster Post 107 and even a personal donation from Ms. Darlene Walton.
We are continuing our drive to donate to the Columbia Fisher House. It has yet to break ground. Widow of MOH recipient John Baker, Jr. Donnell Baker, is leading the charge to get the Fisher House to Columbia. Mrs. Baker said "we have to raise 3.5 million. The Fisher House Foundation will match dollar for dollar for us at what we raise".
We have invited Mrs. Baker to our Department Convention that opens on June 1, 2018.. Our goal now is to raise funds to present her with additonal donations from The South Carolina American Legion family.
If you would like to donate, please make your donation payable to Fisher House Foundation and write Columbia SC Fisher House on the memo line.
Please send your donation no later than Monday, May 28, 2018 to:
The American Legion Department of South Carolina, P.O. Box 3309, Irmo, SC 29063
For God and Country,
