Passing of Past Dept. President Beverly Parker

Mrs. Beverly Ann Parker age 70 of Cave Spring Road, Rome died Friday following an extended illness.

Mrs. Parker was born February 3, 1946 in Polk County, GA daughter of the late Luther B. Stroup and Theda Vell Cagle Stroup. Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and for 35 plus years had been very active in the American Legion auxiliary. Mrs. Parker was 2nd Vice of Unit 5 until her health deteriorated; she also held several chairmanships on District Level and was President numerous times. When she moved up to the Department of Georgia with the Auxiliary, she was Sargent at Arms, Chaplin, Historian, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and her greatest accomplishment of becoming President for 2001-2002.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle who raised her, Zula and Riley Winkles. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jerry Allen Parker in 2008.

Survivors include: her son, Bruce Mattox, Aragon, GA; grandchildren, Zack Mattox and Drew Mattox, great-grandchild, Cooper Mattox, two brothers, Dennis Stroup, Boaz, AL and Tommy Durden, a large number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM in the Chapel of Miller and Richards Funeral Home with Mr. Jason Stroup officiating, interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Parker’s family will gather Monday at the Oaknoll Chapel where they will receive friends from 5 PM until 8 PM at other hours they may be contacted at their respective residences.

Pallbearers are ask to meet at Oaknoll Chapel Tuesday at 1:45 PM and include: Zack Mattox, Drew Mattox, Bunk Davis, John Glenn, Josh Stroup, Kevin Stroup and Mike Fortenberry.
